LAGOS DSVA TAKES CAMPAIGN AGAINST DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE TO LAGOS ISLAND

As part of activities marking the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, on Friday, 11th September 2026, held an Advocacy Walk on Lagos Island to raise awareness and strengthen collective action against Domestic and Sexual Violence.

, Member of the Lagos State 10th House of Assembly representing Lagos Island Constituency I. In her remarks, she emphasised the need for sustained advocacy, community involvement and collective responsibility in tackling Domestic and Sexual Violence. She was also joined by Hon. Yunus Abiodun Nurudeen, APC candidate for Lagos State House of Assembly, Lagos Island Constituency II.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Abimbola Bowale, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health District IV, highlighted the critical role of the health sector in responding to cases of Domestic and Sexual Violence and the need for survivors to receive timely, compassionate and appropriate care.

Speaking on the significance of the walk, the Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to taking the message of prevention and zero tolerance for Domestic and Sexual Violence directly to communities. She noted that the Awareness Month provides an opportunity to deepen conversations around violence, encourage victims and survivors to speak up, and remind residents that everyone has a role to play in preventing violence and supporting those affected.

The walk commenced from SURA Primary Health Centre and ended at the Lagos Island Local Government, where participants were warmly received by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Prince Taiwo Ajibade Oyekan. The Advocacy Walk brought together government officials, stakeholders, advocates, community members and other participants who marched through the community, sharing messages on prevention, reporting and support for survivors.

The community engagement provided an opportunity for residents and stakeholders to connect directly with the Agency, reinforcing the importance of early reporting, community vigilance and collective action in addressing Domestic and Sexual Violence.

The Advocacy Walk further reinforced the Lagos State Government’s commitment to sustained public awareness, prevention, survivor support and coordinated action towards ending Domestic and Sexual Violence across Lagos State.
