…endorses Hon. Umah for second term

Clan of Family Heads (Mbong Ekpuk), Ini Local Government Area Chapter, has honoured the Executive Chairman of Ini Local Government Area, Hon. Inibehe Umah, with the prestigious award of “Iberedem Mbong Ekpuk,” in recognition of his contributions to the development of the local government.

The forum conferred the honour on Umah today, September 18, 2026, during the inauguration of its Executive Council, where the group acknowledged his contributions to infrastructure and the overall development of Ini Local Government Area.

The event also assumed another dimension as the family heads declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Governor Umo Eno and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Receiving the honour, Hon. Umah expressed appreciation to the Clan of Family Heads for the recognition and for the confidence reposed in his administration, saying it would spur him to do more for the people.

He enjoined the family heads to support all APC candidates, beginning with President Tinubu, stressing that their participation in the electoral process was important to the political development of the country and the welfare of the people at the grassroots.

He described family heads as active participants in the electoral process, noting that their positions within their respective communities place them in a unique position to contribute meaningfully to political and democratic activities.

Umah’s call came shortly before the family heads announced their endorsement of his candidacy for a second term as Chairman of Ini Local Government Area.

Hon. Umah resisted the move when it was proposed, telling the family heads that “it is not yet time.” The family heads, however, insisted that they had taken the decision based on their assessment of his performance and would proceed with the endorsement.

They maintained that the decision was informed by their observation of the administration’s activities and its contributions to the development of Ini Local Government Area.

The family heads subsequently formally endorsed Umah for a second term, describing the move as a demonstration of their confidence in his leadership and the direction of the local government under his administration.

He acknowledged the important role played by family heads in maintaining unity and advancing the interests of their communities, while emphasising the need for continued cooperation between community leadership and government.

The recognition as “Iberedem Mbong Ekpuk” further underscored the significance of the occasion. The accompanying certificate commended Umah for his “enormous contributions to the development and provision of infrastructures in Ini L.G.A., Akwa Ibom State.”
