NYSC Mourns Former Director General, Colonel Peter Obasa

The Management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commiserated with the family of its former Director General, Colonel Peter Kolawole Obasa, who died yesterday. Speaking during a condolence visit to the deceased’s residence in Ilorin, Kwara State, NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu described the late Obasa as a pioneer manager and one of the founding fathers of the NYSC, noting that he laid the foundation for a strong administrative structure that has sustained the Scheme over the years.

He said Colonel Obasa’s tenure as the third Chief Executive of the NYSC, from 1979 to 1984, recorded tremendous achievements. The Director General appreciated the deceased’s contributions to the development of NYSC and prayed to God to grant his soul eternal rest.

He stated that Colonel Obasa’s death was not only a loss to his immediate family but also to NYSC, whose members would continue to cherish his enduring contributions and memories. General Nafiu particularly commended the late Colonel Obasa for the encouragement and support he offered him while alive.

He assured the family that NYSC would continue to build on the solid foundation laid by its founding fathers and strive to make the Scheme stronger. “I convey the condolences of the entire NYSC family to the Obasa family,” he said.

Responding on behalf of the family, Mr Victor Obasa appreciated General Nafiu for the condolence visit, describing the death of his father as shocking.

He thanked God for the life of the late Colonel Obasa, as well as the golden footprints and enduring legacies he left behind. “We are overwhelmed, and our family says thank you, NYSC, for the honour you gave our dad. We are very grateful to you for not forgetting him,” he said.
