From 14th to 16th of September 2026, the ECOWAS Court of Justice organised a major capacity-building workshop at the Azalaï Hotel in Cotonou, focusing on the Court’s mandate, jurisdiction, procedures and case law. The event brought together members of parliament, members of the higher courts, judges, lawyers, legal advisers to public administrations, academics, representatives of the Benin Human Rights Commission and civil society organisations.
Organised as part of the programme to raise awareness and build the capacity of national stakeholders, this meeting aimed to improve understanding of the role of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, to promote greater ownership of Community law and to strengthen ties of cooperation between national courts and the Community court
