NEMA DG ZUBAIDA UMAR HONOURED WITH NATION BUILDER AWARD IN DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT

The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs Zubaida Umar, has been honoured with the Nation Builder Award in Disaster Risk Management and Humanitarian Response in recognition of her leadership and contributions to emergency and disaster management in Nigeria.

Mrs Zubaida Umar received the recognition at the 4th Nigeria’s Nation Builders Annual Conference 2026, held in Abuja and organised by the Vision-One Leadership Development Initiative (VOLDI) in partnership with the National Council for Civil Society Organizations (NACCSO).

Presenting the award, the Convener of the conference, Comrade Emmanuel Johnny, said Mrs Zubaida Umar was deserving of the honour for her leadership, commitment to national development and efforts towards strengthening disaster management in Nigeria.

He particularly acknowledged ongoing efforts under her leadership to reposition NEMA and advance a more proactive approach to disaster preparedness and response.

The Director General was represented at the event by Principal Information Officer, Halima Umar Baba, who received the award on her behalf.

The award represents another recognition of Mrs Zubaida Umar’s leadership and commitment to repositioning NEMA towards a more proactive, people-centred and responsive disaster management system.
