NEMA RESPONDS TO FIRE OUTBREAK AT KUGBO FURNITURE MARKET IN ABUJA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Abuja Operations Office, has responded to a fire outbreak at the Kugbo Furniture Market in Abuja, with no casualties recorded in the incident.

The fire, which occurred at about 11:15 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, prompted the activation of NEMA’s Emergency Response and Ambulance Bay (ERAB) and other relevant emergency response stakeholders, including the Federal Fire Service.

NEMA responders supported crowd control efforts and worked alongside firefighters at the scene to contain the blaze and prevent its spread to other parts of the market.

The fire was subsequently dampened to minimise the possibility of secondary outbreaks. Preliminary assessment indicated that 21 shops and one vehicle were affected by the incident.

Emergency operations at the scene were concluded at about 1:40 p.m., with some valuable items recovered from the affected shops.

The response operation further highlighted the importance of coordinated action among emergency response agencies in containing incidents and protecting lives and property in densely populated commercial areas.
