INTERPOL SECRETARY GENERAL HOSTS IGP DISU IN LYON, DEEPENS POLICE COOPERATION WITH NIGERIA

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday paid his first official visit as Nigeria’s police chief to the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon, France, in a move aimed at strengthening international law enforcement collaboration and enhancing Nigeria’s capacity to combat transnational crime. During the visit, the IGP held talks with INTERPOL Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza and senior officials of the global policing organisation. Discussions centred on expanding cooperation in key areas including cybercrime, counter-terrorism, financial crime, organised crime, fugitive investigations, intelligence sharing, and the effective utilisation of INTERPOL’s databases and policing tools.

The engagement also provided an opportunity to assess Nigeria’s participation in INTERPOL-supported programmes and explore additional avenues for technical and operational collaboration. Both sides discussed strategies for improving criminal intelligence analysis, strengthening cross-border investigations, and disrupting transnational criminal networks.

The IGP was accompanied by Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Olaolu Adegbite, Head of INTERPOL Nigeria and the National Central Bureau, Abuja; AIG Ezima Akaninyene Ifem, Director of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre; AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel, Head of the Nigeria Police Counter Terrorism Unit; and Commissioner of Police (CP) Ojajuni Olubode, a member of the INTERPOL Africa Committee.

The visit underscores Nigeria’s continuing efforts to enhance its international policing capabilities and reinforce global partnerships in the fight against increasingly sophisticated forms of transnational crime.
