NNPC delegation meets Borno Governor on Chad Basin Exploration, Maiduguri Power Supply and New Solar Farm
The Chairman of NNPC Limited’s board, Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida, led a delegation to the Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, at Government House, Maiduguri, on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, to discuss resumption of Chad Basin exploration, the Maiduguri Emergency Power Project (MEPP) and a proposed solar farm.
Kida thanked the Governor and the people of Borno State for their support, including the allocation of land for the solar farm and the State Government’s role in securing Federal Government intervention for gas supply to MEPP. He reaffirmed NNPC Limited’s commitment to completing ongoing projects in the state, assuring the Governor of bringing the MEPP combined cycle plant on stream to deliver 50 megawatts of electricity to Maiduguri.
He also disclosed that the company recorded a profit after tax of N7.2 trillion in 2025, up from N5.4 trillion in 2024.
On upstream activities, the Executive Vice President, Upstream, Udy Ntia, expressed optimism about the resumption of seismic data acquisition at the Wadi-1 site by NNPC Energy Services Limited (ENSERV). The exercise, suspended in April 2025 due to security threats, is expected to resume once adequate security assurances are in place.
Responding, Governor Zulum assured NNPC Limited of the State Government’s adequate security support for the resumption of exploration activities in the basin. He proposed that maintenance of the exploration equipment be undertaken locally to allow operations to resume, waived the statutory land charges for the solar farm, and urged NNPC to consider extending the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline from Kano to Maiduguri.
Also on the delegation were the Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy, Olalekan Ogunleye, and the Managing Director, NNPC Energy Services Limited (NNPC ENSERV), Sotonye Pinnick.
