PRESS RELEASE
LAGOS DSVA SENSITISES FATHERS ON RESPONSIBLE, PRESENT AND PROTECTIVE PARENTING
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), through its Community Engagement Department and with support from the Daddy’s Girl Project, has sensitised 70 fathers on responsible, present and protective fatherhood at Ikoyi Senior Grammar School, Lagos.
Held on 27th October 2026, under the theme, “Promoting Responsible, Present and Protective Fathers,” the engagement focused on strengthening father-daughter relationships, promoting the safety and emotional well-being of the girl child, and preventing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) through positive parenting and active paternal involvement.
Representing the Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, the Head of Community Engagement, Mr. Damilare Adewusi, welcomed participants and introduced the facilitators.
The sessions featured Ms. Ramat Balogun-Lamidi, who highlighted the importance of fathers in shaping their daughters’ self-esteem, understanding of healthy relationships and ability to recognise and report abuse.
Mr. Kingsley Obom-Egbulem, a Parenting Coach, author and host of the Manhood Radio Show, further emphasised that protecting the girl child goes beyond financial provision to include emotional support, active listening, guidance, trust and open communication.
Through interactive discussions and reflective exercises, fathers examined toxic masculinity, positive parenting and practical ways to become more present and intentional in their daughters’ lives.
The discussions also reinforced the need for fathers to model healthy behaviours, challenge harmful gender stereotypes and create safe spaces where their daughters feel heard and supported.
The engagement concluded with a collective pledge by participants to prioritise their daughters’ safety, dignity and holistic development.
