The delegation was received at Headquarters 1 Brigade by the Acting Commander, 1 Brigade Nigerian Army Colonel J Umaru, who welcomed the team and expressed appreciation for the visit, noting its significance in strengthening operational assessment and institutional collaboration.

Speaking during the engagement, the Team Leader, Brigadier General RS Omolonri, stated that the visit was aimed at obtaining firsthand appreciation of the Brigade’s operational activities, assessing prevailing operational realities and identifying relevant research findings that could inform improvements in operational planning, execution and training.

He emphasised that the visit was not a fault-finding exercise but a professional engagement designed to gain deeper insight into the operational environment, identify areas requiring intervention and provide appropriate advisory support where necessary. He further noted that the findings would enable the Centre to effectively communicate the Brigade’s operational requirements and challenges to Army Headquarters for necessary consideration and action.

In furtherance of this objective, Brigadier General Omolonri assured the Acting Commander that the operational challenges and identified requirements of the Brigade would be appropriately documented and conveyed to Army Headquarters. He also commended Colonel Umaru for the achievements recorded by the Brigade since his assumption of duty in July 2026, acknowledging the progress made under his leadership despite the prevailing operational challenges.

Highlights of the visit included a briefing on the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility (AOR), a tour of the Brigade’s Garrison kitchen facilities, presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph.

The visit underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to institutional research, operational assessment and continuous professional development as essential pillars for enhancing operational efficiency and combat effectiveness. It also reinforces the importance of collaboration between field formations and Army Headquarters in identifying operational gaps, addressing critical requirements and developing actionable recommendations to strengthen the Nigerian Army’s operational capabilities.
