8 DIVISION NIGERIAN ARMY OPFY TROOPS DISRUPT LAKURAWA OPERATIONS, RECOVER WEAPONS IN KEBBI

Troops of 1 Battalion, 8 Division, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have neutralised several suspected Lakurawa terrorists during an encounter in Kangiwa Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The operation followed several days of sustained intelligence-led surveillance and pursuit, culminating in contact with the terrorists at a location within the area.

In the ensuing engagement, the troops neutralised several members of the group and recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition and other operational items, including one PKT machine gun, one AK-47 rifle, rifle magazines and several bandoliers of ammunition. Also recovered were four motorcycles, a large sum of money and three mobile handsets, assets believed to have supported the group’s mobility, communication and logistics.

The recovery of the weapons, ammunition, mobility assets and communication devices is expected to further degrade the group’s firepower, mobility, logistics and operational reach in the area.

The operation underscores the importance of persistent surveillance, actionable intelligence and decisive offensive action in disrupting terrorist networks, denying them freedom of movement and degrading their operational capabilities.

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA continue to sustain clearance and interdiction operations against terrorist and criminal elements across the affected areas, with efforts focused on disrupting their networks and logistics and restoring security of lives and property within the OPFY Joint Operations Area.
