Alausa Warns National Library Contractors Against Further Delays

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has warned contractors and consultants handling the National Library of Nigeria project against further delays, stressing that failure to meet agreed timelines will attract sanctions.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, the minister said the Federal Government is committed to providing the necessary funding for the project but expects accountability, quality work and timely delivery from all parties involved.

Alausa stated that clear and realistic deadlines would be established for the project, warning that contractors who fail to meet their obligations would face penalties. He added that the government would closely monitor progress to ensure the project is completed in line with agreed standards.

The minister disclosed that the project has been divided into two components, physical infrastructure and furnishing, to allow both aspects to proceed simultaneously and accelerate completion.

He noted that the National Library project, conceived in 1981 and initially scheduled for completion in 2008, remains a critical national institution for education, research and knowledge development. According to him, the renewed push reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure and human capital development.

Alausa also expressed confidence that the project would be transformed into a modern, world class facility capable of serving the needs of Nigerians for generations to come.
