ECOWAS REAFFIRMS ITS COMMITMENT TO THE INCLUSION OF YOUNG PEOPLE IN DEMOCRATIC SYSTEMS IN WEST AFRICA

The ECOWAS Commission, through its Directorate of Political Affairs, is co-organising, with ‘LEGIS360’ a youth organisation that promotes the defence of rights, development and public awareness the first edition of the West African Youth Conference on Democracy, to be held from 8 to 10 September 2026 in Dakar, on the theme: “From activism to taking power: reassessing the political inclusion of young people in West Africa and advancing a regional agenda for democratic governance”.

This conference aims to provide a high-level regional platform to assess progress made, examine persistent barriers and promote evidence-based political and institutional reforms, with a view to strengthening the meaningful inclusion of young people in democratic governance and political decision-making within ECOWAS Member States.
