TACKLING THE RISING RATE OF PHONE THEFT: CP NAZIRU ABDULMAJID HOLDS STRATEGIC MEETING WITH GSM VILLAGE COMMITTEE

The Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, today, Wednesday, 16 September 2026, held a strategic meeting with members of the Maiduguri GSM Market Committee as part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to tackle the rising rate of phone theft, handset snatching, and the illegal buying and selling of stolen mobile phones in the state.

The meeting was necessitated by emerging security concerns and reports of increasing cases of phone theft and handset snatching within the Maiduguri metropolis, following the recovery of over 52 stolen mobile phones by the Command in the past month.

During the meeting, the Commissioner of Police urged GSM dealers and other stakeholders in the telecommunications business to remain vigilant and ensure that their businesses are not used as channels for the sale or disposal of stolen mobile phones.

He further encouraged members of the GSM Village Committee to support the Police by providing timely and useful information that could assist in identifying individuals involved in phone theft and the circulation of stolen handsets.

The Chairman of Maiduguri GSM Market Association, Mr. Aliko Dass, assured the Command of the association’s full commitment to supporting the Police through timely information and intelligence sharing, as well as cooperation in identifying and preventing the circulation of stolen mobile phones.
