NEMA Distributes Relief to Fire-Affected Traders in Sokoto Old Market

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Sokoto Operations Office, has distributed relief materials to traders affected by the fire incident at Sokoto Old Market, popularly known as Tsohuwar Kasuwa.

The intervention, carried out on September 21, 2026, was aimed at providing immediate support to the affected traders and cushioning the impact of the fire, which disrupted livelihoods and resulted in material losses.

The relief package comprised rice, beans, maize, vegetable oil, tomato paste, seasoning, iodised salt, roofing sheets and mosquito nets.

Representatives of the market union expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the intervention, describing the assistance as timely support for traders dealing with the aftermath of the incident. They also commended NEMA for providing relief to disaster-affected communities.

The distribution exercise was also attended by representatives of the Member representing Sokoto North/South Federal Constituency, Hon. Hassan Bala Abubakar.
