THE PRESIDENT OF THE ECOWAS COURT OF JUSTICE CALLS FOR GREATER SUPPORT FOR THE ENFORCEMENT OF THE COMMUNITY’S JUDGMENTS
The President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, the Honourable Judge Charlyne Brumskine, has called for greater institutional support and collective action to ensure the effective implementation of the Community Court’s judgements. Justice Brumskine made this appeal during a working visit to the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. General Birame Diop, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, on 22 October 2026.
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen institutional collaboration and advance efforts to ensure that the Court’s judgments are respected and implemented throughout the ECOWAS region. The Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, Mr Anthony Oluwatosin Ogunjimi, and the Commissioner for Internal Services, Dr Kalilou Sylla, attended the meeting.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of ECOWAS institutions to strengthening institutional cooperation, upholding the rule of law and advancing regional integration. Both institutions emphasised the importance of accessible justice and the effective implementation of Community judgments, which are essential pillars of public trust, good governance and the realisation of the ECOWAS vision 2050.
