2027 ELECTION: CROSS RIVER POLICE, YOUTH MINISTRY JOIN FORCES AGAINST POLITICAL VIOLENCE, PROMOTE RESPONSIBLE CITIZENSHIP

… as CP Ajo calls for responsible youth participation, constructive engagement and collective responsibility in sustaining public peace.

1. The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, psc, mnips, mspsp, on Wednesday, 4th November 2026, received the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development and Skills Acquisition, Barr. Odum-Ujom Ukam, and his delegation during a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters, Calabar. The visit focused on strengthening cooperation between the Police and the Ministry in promoting responsible youth participation, peaceful civic engagement and public safety, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
2. During the meeting, the delegation presented the Ministry’s proposed Youth Civic Engagement and Democratic Participation Orientation Programme, in collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Cross River State Youth ICT Hub and the Association of Concerned Partners for Nigerian Youths (ASCOPANY). The programme, themed “Informed Youth, Responsible Citizenship: Strengthening Democratic Participation, Digital Citizenship and Peaceful Civic Engagement,” seeks to educate young people on their civic rights and responsibilities, peaceful participation in democratic processes and responsible use of digital platforms.
3. The Commissioner of Police welcomed the initiative and emphasised the importance of engaging young people through continuous sensitisation and constructive dialogue. He stressed that political differences should never become a reason for violence, intimidation or the destruction of public and private property. He further underscored the need for young people to respect the law, tolerate opposing views and exercise their democratic rights peacefully. The Command identified civic education, police-led public enlightenment and youth sensitisation as important areas of cooperation in preventing violence and promoting security across the state.
4. The engagement reinforces the Command’s commitment to preventive policing through collaboration with government institutions and other stakeholders. The Command encourages young people to reject political violence, avoid the spread of inflammatory information and resist being used to disrupt public peace. As the country approaches the 2027 general elections, the Police assures residents of its commitment to providing a safe environment for lawful political and civic activities, without discrimination.
