Betta Edu Hails Tinubu Over Women Representation Bills

The Director of Women Mobilisation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Betta Edu, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to sponsoring executive bills designed to enhance women’s representation in elective and appointive positions, assuring him of sustained grassroots mobilisation and engagement across Nigeria.

President Tinubu had reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the proposed legislation, assuring Nigerian women that deliberate efforts would be made to improve their representation in the National Assembly and at the sub-national level.

The President gave the assurance during the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he acknowledged the indispensable contributions of women to political mobilisation, electoral participation and democratic development.

Addressing the women leaders at the event, Tinubu described women as the driving force behind grassroots political engagement and the advancement of democracy.

“You women are the greatest mobilisers and foot soldiers of our democracy,” the President said.

He urged the women leaders to intensify their advocacy and engagement in support of the six bills aimed at strengthening women’s representation, expressing confidence that sustained efforts would lead to the realisation of the objectives of the proposed legislation.

“Go and work for them, and I assure you that they will come to fruition,” Tinubu said.

Speaking during an interview shortly after the President’s remarks, Edu expressed profound appreciation for his commitment to advancing women’s political inclusion, describing the proposed bills as a significant step towards strengthening women’s participation in governance and expanding opportunities for them to occupy positions of responsibility.

She noted that the President’s assurances demonstrated his recognition of the importance of women in the country’s democratic process and the need to create a more inclusive political environment in which women could contribute meaningfully to decision-making at all levels of government.

She further reaffirmed her commitment to deepening engagement with women across communities nationwide, strengthening grassroots mobilisation structures and encouraging greater female participation in the political process.

She said the mobilisation drive would continue under the supervision of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, with a focus on sustaining contact with women at the grassroots and reinforcing their participation in the nation’s political development.

Edu’s remarks underscored her appreciation of the President’s assurances on women’s representation and her determination to translate the administration’s commitment into sustained grassroots engagement across the country.

She assured President Tinubu that Nigerian women would reciprocate his support and commitment by intensifying mobilisation efforts and demonstrating their appreciation through active political participation during the 2027 general elections.
