The Borno State Police Command under the leadership of Cp Naziru Abdulmajid psc has recorded a major development in its fight against financial crimes following the arrest of four suspects over a case of criminal conspiracy and theft involving the fraudulent withdrawal of ₦285,000 from a victim’s account.

BRIEF OF INCIDENT

On 25th October, 2026, at about 1400hrs, one Unus Burum ‘M’ of Shuwari II, Maiduguri, reported to the Command that two young men approached him, claiming to be Moniepoint agents who could assist him with any service he required. Subsequently the sum of N285,000 was fraudulently withdrawn from his account by the suspects.

Following the report, police operatives of the State intelligence department (SID) commenced an investigation and successfully traced the POS transactions to the agents involved. Further investigative efforts led to the arrest of the four suspects.

The Police operatives also successfully recovered 40 OPay and Moniepoint ATM cards from the suspects as exhibits to aid further investigation.

The Borno State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and bringing perpetrators of crime to justice. Members of the public are advised never to disclose their account details, PINs, passwords or one-time passwords (OTPs) to strangers or allow unauthorised persons access to their mobile banking applications.

The Command urges residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station. It further assures the public that appropriate lawful action will be taken against anyone found culpable upon the conclusion of investigations.
