BUILDING COLLAPSE REPORTED AT ABORU, LAGOS STATE
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Operations Office, has responded to a building collapse at No. 42, Governors Road, Aboru, Lagos State, following an alert received on the night of 9th September 2026.
The one-storey building reportedly collapsed at about 11:35 p.m. after manual demolition work at the site had been concluded for the day. Preliminary information indicated that the structure was already in a weakened condition before the incident. At the time of the collapse, the workers were reportedly asleep while rainfall was ongoing.
Following receipt of the alert, the NEMA response team proceeded to the scene to assess the situation, determine the extent of the incident and obtain preliminary information from persons present at the location.
Three persons were reportedly involved in the incident. Two sustained injuries, while one person was confirmed dead.
The assessment was also witnessed by the Vice Chairman of Agbado-Oke-Odo, who was present at the scene during the NEMA team’s response.
Following the incident, the affected building was secured and locked by the relevant authorities to prevent further access and minimise the risk of additional incidents at the location.
