COAS STRENGTHENS CIVIL-MILITARY RELATIONS WITH SCHOOL PROJECT IN BENIN
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Friday, 6 November 2026, commissioned a newly remodelled school at Ezomo Community in Benin City, Edo State, as part of the Nigerian Army’s Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) projects aimed at strengthening relations with host communities.
The project, initiated by the Chief of Standards and Evaluation (Army), Major General Bobby Ugiagbe, is designed to improve the learning environment for pupils and teachers while fostering mutual trust and cooperation between the Nigerian Army and the civilian population.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the COAS reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to impactful CIMIC interventions that complement government efforts in providing essential social amenities, particularly in the education sector. He noted that such projects remain an important aspect of the Army’s non-kinetic approach to promoting peace, security and community development.
Lieutenant General Shaibu expressed confidence that the remodelled school would provide a more conducive environment for teaching and learning, enhance academic performance and further strengthen the cordial relationship between the Army and the host community. He urged community members to take ownership of the facility, ensure its proper maintenance and protect it against vandalism.
The COAS commended Major General Ugiagbe for his foresight, initiative and commitment to community development, noting that the project reflects the Nigerian Army’s resolve to positively impact the lives of people in its host communities.
Earlier in his remarks, Major General Ugiagbe said the project was executed under the Nigerian Army’s CIMIC programme as part of efforts to give back to the community and strengthen civil-military relations. He expressed appreciation to the COAS for his support and encouragement, which facilitated the successful completion of the project.
