GOVERNOR SANWO-OLU COMMISSIONS 248-BED HOSTEL AT LASCON, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO NURSING EDUCATION
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, officially commissioned the newly constructed students’ hostel at the Lagos State College of Nursing (LASCON), Igando.
The ultramodern facility, which provides accommodation for over 248 students, represents another significant milestone in the State Government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare manpower development and improving the welfare and learning environment of nursing students in Lagos State.
Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the new hostel as more than an addition to the College’s physical infrastructure, noting that it represents an investment in human capital development and the future of healthcare delivery in Lagos State.
The Governor emphasised the critical role of nurses in the healthcare system, noting that their expertise, dedication and commitment remain indispensable to meeting the healthcare needs of Lagos State’s rapidly growing population.
He further disclosed that his administration is pursuing approval for the establishment of a University of Medical Sciences in Lagos, which would expand the State’s capacity to train doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.
According to him, the proposed institution would contribute to addressing the shortage of skilled healthcare workers and reduce pressure on existing healthcare facilities across the State.
Governor Sanwo-Olu charged the management and students of LASCON to take ownership of the newly commissioned facility and ensure its proper maintenance. He noted that responsible use and maintenance of public infrastructure would strengthen the government’s confidence to provide more facilities.
He also assured members of the nursing profession that the Lagos State Government would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving their working and learning conditions.
In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, described the commissioning as another milestone in the State’s educational and healthcare development agenda under the leadership of Governor Sanwo-Olu.
The Commissioner described the facility as a testament to the Governor’s commitment to empowering young people, improving healthcare delivery and providing an environment that promotes excellence, comfort and dignity for future healthcare professionals.
He commended the management, faculty and project execution team for their dedication towards delivering the facility, noting that the hostel would contribute to shaping the character and professionalism of generations of nurses.
