LAGOS STATE MODEL SENIOR COLLEGE, MEIRAN SHINES AT KIDS INNOVATION AFRICA CHALLENGE

Lagos State Model Senior College, Meiran in Education District I, has once again demonstrated excellence and innovation by emerging as the best among Lagos State public schools and First Runner-Up overall at the Kids Innovation Africa Challenge organised by Destiny Trust International, held at Landmark Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos, recently.

The Hackathon, designed to empower children across Africa to develop innovative solutions to pressing challenges in education, environmental sustainability, and sustainable food production, attracted a massive turnout of over 1,500 children, partners, mentors and judges from across the country.

Representing Lagos State Model Senior College, Meiran, Fanika Faith, Giwa Olaosebikan, and Olaoye Rhoda developed an innovative project tagged “SmartFarm.”

The SmartFarm project is an integrated agricultural system that utilises sensor technology to enhance food production while helping to protect farmers and improve agricultural practices. The innovation was further strengthened by the integration of seven world-class robotic designs, showcasing the students’ creativity, technical knowledge, and problem-solving abilities.

The impressive project earned the school Overall Best among Lagos public schools and First Runner-Up in the Kids Innovation Africa Challenge.

While addressing the winners, Dr. (Mrs.) Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District I, congratulated the Principal, Mr. Ajayi Temitope, the project coach, Mr. Moses Adewale, and student representatives on the remarkable milestone.

Dr. Oyetola commended the students for their creativity, innovation, teamwork, and commitment to excellence while encouraging them to remain focused and continue on the path of excellence in order to achieve even greater feats in the future.

The achievement further reflects the commitment of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to nurturing innovation, creativity, technology-driven learning, and the development of future-ready students.
