NEMA FLAGS OFF DIRECT RELIEF DISTRIBUTION TO FLOOD, LANDSLIDE VICTIMS IN CROSS RIVER

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Uyo Operations Office, has commenced the direct distribution of relief materials to persons affected by flood and landslide disasters across five Local Government Areas of Cross River State.

The distribution exercise, flagged off on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, covers Calabar South, Calabar Municipality, Etung, Ikom and Obubra Local Government Areas, with relief items being delivered directly to affected communities.

Flagging off the exercise in Calabar Municipality on behalf of the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, the Team Lead, Mr. Awoji Augustine, Assistant Chief Accountant (ACA), conveyed the Agency’s sympathy to the affected persons and assured them of the Federal Government’s continued support to communities impacted by disasters.

He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the relief items and encouraged residents to adopt proactive disaster risk reduction measures, particularly during the rainy season, to minimise the impact of future disasters.

The exercise was conducted in collaboration with the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (CRSEMA) and witnessed by representatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), community leaders and other relevant stakeholders.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Usukama Paulinus and Mrs. Ansa Henshaw appreciated the Federal Government and NEMA for the intervention, noting that the relief materials would provide immediate support to affected individuals and families as they recover from the impact of the disasters.
