NEMA RESPONDS TO FIRE INCIDENT AT INDEPENDENCE LAYOUT, ENUGU
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Enugu Operations Office (EOO) has responded to a fire incident at Ummuneoma Close, Monarch Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu State.
At about 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, 4 October 2026, the NEMA Enugu Operations Office received a distress call regarding the fire outbreak and immediately activated relevant stakeholders, including the Federal and State Fire Services, which responded to the scene.
The fire, which originated from one of the flats in a three-storey building, was contained through the combined efforts of NEMA and the fire services before it could spread to other flats within the building. The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained, as the occupant of the affected apartment was not at home when the incident occurred.
No casualties were recorded. However, some properties and valuables were completely destroyed by the fire.
Emergency response operations at the scene were concluded at about 2:59 p.m.
Residents of the area commended the responders for their swift intervention. The NEMA team also urged residents and property owners to ensure that fire extinguishers are installed in buildings and readily accessible to help control fire outbreaks at the early stage before they escalate.
