NHIA SENSITISES PLATEAU CORPS MEMBERS ON HEALTH INSURANCE BENEFITS

Corps Members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course in Plateau State have been sensitised on the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) health insurance programme and procedures for accessing healthcare during their service year.

The sensitisation lecture was held at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, WAYE Foundation, Doi-Du, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Speaking during the lecture, the Head of External Programme Activities, NHIA, Mr. Danladi Jatau, explained that the Group, Individual and Family Social Health Insurance Programme for NYSC (GIFSHIP-n) is a government-funded health insurance programme managed by the NHIA and NYSC for mobilised and serving Corps Members.

He stated that the programme enables Corps Members to access healthcare services through NHIA-accredited public and private health facilities, thereby reducing the financial burden of medical treatment.

Mr. Jatau said the coverage includes primary and secondary healthcare services, including hospital care, eye examinations, dental care and other approved medical services.

He advised Corps Members to present their NYSC identification cards when seeking medical attention and contact their designated Third-Party Administrator (TPA) for referrals where necessary.

He added that the coverage remains valid throughout the service year and for three weeks after the official Passing-Out Parade (POP). The NHIA official encouraged Corps Members to use the scheme appropriately and seek medical attention through the approved channels whenever necessary, noting that they would be responsible for renewing their health insurance coverage after the period of eligibility.

The lecture featured a question-and-answer session, during which Corps Members sought clarification on the benefits, referral procedures and access to healthcare services under the scheme.
