NIGERIA, TUNISIA ADVANCE BILATERAL COOPERATION AS AMBASSADOR KULU HARUNA ABUBAKAR PRESENTS HER LETTERS OF CREDENCE

Her Excellency Dr. Kulu Haruna Abubakar, MFR, has presented her Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Tunisia, His Excellency Kais Saied, at the Presidential Palace in Tunis on 21 September 2026, marking the commencement of her diplomatic engagement as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Tunisia.

During an audience with President Saeid following the presentation of her Letters of Credence, Ambassador Abubakar conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to President Saied and the people of Tunisia.

The ceremony provided an opportunity to review the state of NigeriaTunisia relations and explore avenues for strengthening cooperation in key areas including trade, investment, education, technology, defence, tourism, healthcare and people-to-people exchanges.

Discussions focused on strengthening Nigeria-Tunisia Joint Commission to better serve as an effective platform for deepening bilateral engagement and advancing cooperation across political, economic, social and cultural spheres. Specific areas discussed include air connectivity, medical tourism, visa exemption for diplomatic passport holders, technology transfer, as well as trade and investment.

The proposal to establish drone manufacturing facilities in Bauchi State also featured in their deliberations. Nigeria and Greece share interests in regional security, particularly on addressing the proliferation of small arms and light weapons originating from the wider North African region.

Tunisia’s experience in border management and security offers opportunities for enhanced security and defence cooperation between both countries.

Nigeria and Tunisia are also pursuing the conclusion of a number of pending bilateral instruments including agreements on the avoidance of double taxation, defence cooperation, livestock development, visa arrangements, legal and judicial cooperation, business promotion, education and technology transfer.

Ambassador Abubakar’s assumption of duty is expected to provide renewed impetus to Nigeria-Tunisia relations and further strengthen the longstanding bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The Federal Government of Nigeria looks forward to working closely with the Government of Tunisia to translate the existing goodwill and shared interests between both countries into concrete and mutually beneficial outcomes.
