OYO POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED CABLE VANDAL IN OGBOMOSO, RECOVER CABLES WORTH ₦2.69 MILLION

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Ayomide Ojo, in connection with the vandalism and theft of house-wiring cables valued at approximately ₦2,692,000 in Ogbomoso.

The arrest was made at about 0530hrs on 21 September 2026 by operatives of the Monitoring Unit attached to Ogbomoso Base, while on anti-crime patrol along Bosunla Street, Ogbomoso. The operatives accosted the suspect while he was in possession of a sack bag fully loaded with house-wiring cables suspected to have been removed from a building under construction within Ogbomoso Township.

Following his arrest, the suspect was subjected to preliminary interrogation, during which he confessed to vandalising the cables alongside one Warris, who is presently at large. He further disclosed that the cables were vandalised from an uncompleted building opposite Akala House in Ogbomoso.

Based on this disclosure, police operatives immediately visited the identified scene of crime, where the owner of the vandalised property, Salaudeen Rasaq, was contacted. Upon assessment, he estimated the value of the cables vandalised and removed from his building at ₦2,692,000.

The investigation is ongoing, with concerted efforts being made to apprehend the fleeing accomplice, Warris, as well as identify and arrest other persons involved in the criminal chain, particularly those who receive and dispose of vandalised cables.

The Command therefore reiterates its commitment to protecting public and private infrastructure across the State and urges members of the public to promptly provide the police with actionable information on the activities of cable vandals, thieves and criminal receivers.
