OYO POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED DRUG PEDDLERS, RECOVER EIGHT PARCELS OF SUSPECTED CANADIAN LOUD

In its continued effort to rid Oyo State of crime and criminality, particularly the underlying catalysts that fuel criminal activities, the Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug peddlers and recovered eight parcels of weeds suspected to be Canadian Loud concealed inside a car tyre. The operation is part of the Command’s sustained intelligence-led efforts to disrupt criminal networks and prevent illicit substances from contributing to insecurity across the State.

Following actionable intelligence received by the Command on 2 September 2026 regarding the activities of a known drug peddler at a vulcanizer’s shop, where suspected hard drugs were being concealed inside a car tyre, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, directed the Officer in Charge, Anti-Narcotics Section, through the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (DCCID), to move to the location. Acting on the directive, operatives proceeded to the said shop, where they arrested two suspects and recovered the eight parcels of weeds suspected to be Canadian Loud concealed inside the car tyre with the assistance of the vulcanizer. A vulcanizing machine allegedly used in the process was also recovered as an exhibit.

The recovery of the suspected illicit drugs and the arrest of the suspects subsequently opened a new phase of the investigation. Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their respective involvement in the act and are currently assisting the Police with the ongoing investigation. They will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate.

The operation therefore reinforces the Command’s position that tackling drug trafficking is an essential part of the broader fight against crime and criminality. Hard drugs do not only pose serious health and social dangers; their proliferation can impair judgment, fuel violence and provide a catalyst for crimes such as cultism, robbery, kidnapping and other forms of organised criminality. The Command remains committed to disrupting such networks and calls on members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information that can assist in making Oyo State safer.
