TRAINING AND DOCTRINE COMMAND NIGERIAN ARMY CONCLUDED A 2-DAY LIBRARY STUDY PERIOD, COMMANDER TASKED PERSONNEL ON READING CULTURE

The Commander, Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA), Major General Peter Malla, who was also the Special Guest of Honour at the 2-Day TRADOC NA Library Day Study Period 2026, charged personnel to enhance patronage of library facilities and imbibe reading culture. The Study Period themed, “Enhancing Knowledge-Based Nigerian Army Personnel in a Dynamic Society,” was held at the TRADOC NA Auditorium, Minna Military Cantonment, from 16 – 17 September 2026.

Major General Malla stated that the essence of the programme was to engage and collaborate with professionals on contemporary issues relating to the use and application of library resources, with a view to enhancing the reading culture of Nigerian Army personnel and their families.

He noted that improved reading habits would significantly contribute to developing the critical thinking and problem-solving skills required by personnel in the discharge of their duties. The Commander further emphasised that cultivating reading habits by the participants and their families will override social media distractions which are often fragmented. Maj Gen Malla expressed profound appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for his strategic guidance and continued support to TRADOC NA.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director, Army Training Support Centre, TRADOC NA, Major General Mohammed Babayo, enjoined all participants drawn from the Nigerian Army, sister security agencies in Minna, members of the academia from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, as well as teachers, students and pupils from various schools in Minna Military Cantonment to cultivate reading habits. He emphasised that libraries support informed military decision-making, specialised research and educational development of personnel. He observed that in the 21st century information age, military libraries have evolved beyond mere repositories of books to encompass research, technical and digital resources that contribute to military readiness and informed action.

Highlights of the event were the rendition of Spoken Words by students of Government Army Day Secondary School and presentation of educational materials to various schools within Minna Military Cantonment by the Commander TRADOC NA, culminating in group photographs.
