WORKING VISIT BY HIS EXCELLENCY OLUWATOSIN ANTHONY OGUNJIMIE, VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE ECOWAS COMMISSION, TO THE GAMBIA.

H.E. Oluwatosin Anthony OGUNJIMI, Vice-President of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), concluded his 2 days working mission to the Republic of The Gambia on Tuesday, 29 September 2026. This first working visit to The Gambia featured a series of institutional engagements, meetings with ECOWAS structures, visits to development projects, and discussions focused on peace, security and conflict prevention in the region.

The mission featured several key engagements: Strengthening ECOWAS institutional presence, with visits to the ECOWAS Permanent Mission Delegation in The Gambia and the ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority (ERCA); Visit to ECOWAS Regional Stabilisation and Development Fund (RSDF) achievements, including the Gambia Tourism and Hospitality Institute (GTHI) and the Fish Smoking Complex, with the support of GAMWORKS; High-level dialogue with the Gambian authorities, including a courtesy meeting with H.E. Mohammed BS JALLOW, the Vice-President of the Republic of The Gambia, focusing on shared priorities in development, peace and regional security.

The Vice-President also undertook a visit to support regional peace and security efforts, which included a visit to troops from the Nigerian Army’s 11th contingent deployed in The Gambia as part of ECOMIG, and a visit to the ECOWAS Early Warning and Response Centre in The Gambia, bringing the mission to a close. The mission underscored ECOWAS’ commitment to building a Community that is closer to its people, more visible on the ground, and firmly committed to peace, security, resilience and regional development.
