GOC 1 DIVISION VISITS KANO, COMMISSIONS NEW ACCOMMODATIONS FACILITIES TO BOOST TROOPS MORALE
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 1 Joint Task Force North-West (Operation FANSAN YAMMA), Major General Abubakar Wase, has concluded a three day operational tour of formations and units under his command, highlighting infrastructure development and strategic expansion.
The tour, which spanned 15 to 17 September 2026, allowed the GOC to assess ongoing operations, engage directly with personnel, and review key security developments within the 3 Brigade’s area of responsibility.Upon his arrival at the Headquarters of the 3 Brigade in Kano, Major General Wase was received by the Commander, 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, along with other senior officers.
A major highlight of the visit was the commissioning of two newly completed accommodation blocks of 2 x 12 of 2 bedroom flats at the Bukavu Barracks, Kano. The project delivers a modern family quarters designated for Corporal and Below personnel. The housing units were constructed by Army Headquarters under the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Intervention Programme, directly reflecting the COAS’s “Soldier First Concept” command philosophy.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Major General Wase expressed deep appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to personnel welfare. “Decent accommodation is a fundamental pillar of personnel welfare,” the GOC stated. “A conducive living environment contributes significantly to the well-being and morale of our troops and their families. The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its mission to upgrade living conditions across all formations and units.
“Expanding the Division’s operational footprint, Major General Wase also travelled to Dambatta to inspect a proposed site for a new military unit. He was welcomed by the Chairman of Dambatta Local Government Area, Honourable Jamilu Abubakar Dambatta, who provided a comprehensive briefing on the local security situation. The interaction underscored the critical value of sustained synergy between the Nigerian Army, local administration, and community stakeholders in mitigating security threats.
In the final leg of his tour, the GOC proceeded to Tudun Wada to inspect another proposed site for a prospective Nigerian Army unit. The assessment focused on evaluating the location’s suitability, infrastructure needs, and tactical requirements.This strategic expansion underscores 1 Division’s commitment to widening its operational reach, improving rapid response capabilities, and maintaining long-term peace and stability across the North-West region.
