FAAN TAKES AVIATION CAREER AWARENESS TO THE NEXT GENERATION
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has strengthened its commitment to inspiring and preparing young Nigerians for careers in aviation through its New Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) Training Programme.
The training brought together members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and students from MMA Secondary School, Air Force Secondary School and Honeyland Schools, providing participants with practical insights into the wide range of career opportunities available within the aviation industry.
Representing the Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, was the Director of Engineering Services (DES), Engr. Abiola Muniru Adejare, who delivered the welcome address on behalf of the Managing Director/Chief Executive.
Also present was the General Manager, Welfare and Management Services, Mrs. Gladys Omotosho, who represented the Director of Human Resources, Dr. Emiola Olatubosun Luqman, and delivered the opening speech on his behalf.
The programme was designed to expose participants to the various professional pathways within aviation and demonstrate that the industry extends far beyond the commonly known roles of pilots and cabin crew.
Participants received career-focused presentations from professionals across different fields. A commercial pilot shared insights into the training, discipline and commitment required to pursue a career in commercial aviation, while a medical doctor discussed opportunities within aviation medicine and the important role of healthcare professionals in the sector.
An Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Service (ARFFS) professional also spoke on the specialised training, skills and responsibilities required for airport emergency response and fire safety.
In addition, a photographer and filmmaker delivered a career-path presentation, highlighting opportunities for young people to build careers in photography, filmmaking, visual storytelling and media within the aviation industry.
A representative of the Federation of International Drone Soccer Association (FIDA) Nigeria also made a presentation, broadening participants’ understanding of drone technology, its emerging applications and opportunities within the sector.
The participants were subsequently given the opportunity to take part in drone soccer practicals, providing a hands-on and engaging experience that introduced them to drone technology, piloting and the practical application of emerging technologies.
The programme ended with a closing remark and words of advice from the host, the General Manager, Training and Human Resources Development, Dr. Toyin Akinlade, who encouraged the participants to remain committed to learning, develop relevant skills and take advantage of opportunities within the aviation industry.
