The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, psc, mnips, on Tuesday, 27th October 2026, convened a strategic meeting with heads of relevant security and traffic management agencies, alongside representatives of contractors handling the ongoing construction along the Asaba–Onitsha Expressway, to address the persistent traffic congestion caused by the roadworks ahead of the festive season.
The meeting, held at the Delta State Police Headquarters, Asaba, was attended by the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Chinedu Fabian Igbo; the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Charles E. Edem; representative of the Director-General, Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DETSMA); and representatives of the construction contractors. The CP expressed concern over the difficulties faced by motorists, particularly around the Niger Bridge corridor, and called for coordinated action to ease traffic congestion.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, psc, mnips, emphasised the need for strategic deployment of traffic personnel, prompt evacuation of broken-down vehicles and effective coordination among the agencies. He also urged the contractors to provide adequate warning signs, clearly marked diversions and safe passage through construction areas, while working closely with traffic management agencies to minimise disruptions to vehicular movement. He further reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of road users and improved traffic flow along the expressway throughout the construction period.
