CAS LITERARY COMPETITION SPOTLIGHTS YOUNG INNOVATORS, CELEBRATES ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE IN BAUCHI

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has continued to demonstrate its commitment to nurturing young talents and promoting intellectual excellence with the presentation of the 2026 Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Literary Competition Award to Aisha-Nana Mohammed, who emerged third in the tertiary category. The award presentation, held at the Special Operations Command, NAF, Bauchi, was conducted on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, DFS, by the Air Officer Commanding, Special Operations Command, Air Vice Marshal A Idris, mni. The competition, which attracted an impressive 951 entries across the primary, secondary and tertiary categories, provided a platform for young Nigerians to showcase their creativity, knowledge and innovative thinking.

The CAS described the competition as more than a literary exercise, highlighting its importance as a strategic non-kinetic engagement initiative that connects the NAF with the younger generation while encouraging intellectual curiosity and technological awareness. With the theme, “Optimizing Emerging Technologies for Enhanced Air Operations,” the 2026 edition addressed the growing influence of artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, unmanned platforms and advanced data analytics on modern airpower. The CAS emphasised that technology alone does not create capability; rather, it is the knowledge, imagination and innovative capacity of people that determine its effective application. He reaffirmed that investing in education, human capital development and youth empowerment remains essential to national security and aligns with his Command Philosophy of sustaining a highly motivated, professional and mission-ready Nigerian Air Force.

Congratulating the award recipient, the CAS encouraged her to see the recognition as a stepping stone to greater accomplishments, while urging other participants to remain determined in their pursuit of excellence. He further challenged young Nigerians to embrace three guiding principles: Think, Innovate and Serve, stressing that their knowledge and talents must translate into meaningful contributions to national development. The occasion, which featured goodwill messages from senior military officers and the Vice-Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba, alongside other university representatives and pupils of Air Force Primary School, reinforced the importance of collaboration between military and academic institutions in preparing future generations. Through the CAS Literary Competition and other youth-focused initiatives, the NAF continues to invest in the intellectual capital of the nation, recognising that the future of national security and technological advancement depends not only on military hardware but also on educated minds, creative thinkers and innovative young Nigerians.
