TROOPS DESTROY KIDNAPPERS’ CAMP, RECOVER 1,000 ROUNDS OF AMMUNITION IN KOGI FOREST

Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation WHIRL STROKE have destroyed a suspected kidnappers’ camp in Edimogbo Forest, Igala-Mela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State, recovering 1,000 rounds of ammunition and other items.

Security sources said the operation was conducted at about 7:00 a.m. on October 2, 2026, by troops of the Quick Reaction Force (QRF), 21 Battalion, following intelligence on the suspected hideout. The troops mobilised through the Ejule–Alloma–Ofabo route but came under brief gunfire as they approached the camp. The suspects reportedly fled into the forest, prompting a pursuit that yielded no further contact.

The troops subsequently destroyed the camp and recovered 1,000 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 ammunition, seven bandoliers, two shovels, a hand pump, a mobile phone, a Glo modem and six Daylong motorcycles. Other items included two packets of soap, a jerrycan of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), shoes and clothing.
