DSS CRACKS DOWN ON IMPOSTOR, ARRESTS MAN IN FAKE UNIFORM IN ABUJA

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man identified as Moferewa Maiye for allegedly impersonating a personnel of the Service and extorting motorists in Abuja. Maiye, who claimed to be from Agbajojun Village, Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, was trailed and arrested at his hideout around NITEL Junction, along Adetokunbo Ademola Way, Wuse II.

He was reportedly found wearing a DSS tactical uniform and carrying a fake pistol. A security source said the DSS acted on credible intelligence that the suspect was using the uniform and fake weapon to intimidate commuters and motorists and extort money from them.

During interrogation, Maiye reportedly claimed that the DSS uniform and kit belonged to his late brother, Monday Maiye, who was a DSS personnel.

The suspect remains in custody as investigators probe how he obtained the uniform and equipment and determine whether he had previously engaged in similar acts of impersonation and extortion.

The arrest highlights the DSS’ concerns over individuals impersonating security personnel to intimidate members of the public and commit criminal offences.
