FIRST LADY OLUREMI TINUBU PARTNERS WITH APC SENATORS AND CANDIDATES FOR TWO KEY RENEWED HOPE INITIATIVE PROGRAMMES

The First Lady of Nigeria and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is partnering with APC Senators and senatorial candidates to implement two core programmes of the Initiative aimed at supporting elderly citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the 109 senatorial districts in the country.

She announced this during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting with serving APC Senators and senatorial candidates. The meeting was attended by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen; and APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, among other leaders.

The RHI Economic Empowerment Programme for Persons with Disabilities, under the Economic Empowerment scope of the Initiative, is the second edition of the programme. It will provide ₦200,000 each to 250 beneficiaries in every senatorial district in commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, 2026.

The RHI Elderly Support Scheme, under the Social Investment scope of the Initiative, is the fourth edition since its inception. Scheduled for December 17, 2026, the scheme will provide ₦200,000 each to 250 elderly beneficiaries in every senatorial district across the country.

According to the First Lady, the RHI adopted the senatorial district implementation model to optimise grassroots distribution, ensure that the interventions reach Persons with Disabilities and elderly citizens aged 65 years and above, and broaden the reach of both programmes.

In addition to beneficiaries across the 109 senatorial districts, Senator Oluremi Tinubu disclosed that the RHI would continue its tradition of extending the Economic Empowerment Programme for Persons with Disabilities and the Elderly Support Scheme to veterans.

The total amount to be disbursed under the two core programmes of the Initiative is ₦12.1 billion.

The First Lady and National Chairman of the RHI charged APC senatorial candidates with overseeing the transparent disbursement of funds. She emphasised that the interventions must transcend party affiliation, ethnicity and religious differences, urging them to ensure that support reaches all deserving constituents rather than restricting assistance to party members.

Top legislative and party leaders, including the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen; and APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, commended the First Lady’s enduring commitment to vulnerable populations.

They noted that the RHI strengthens social welfare, bridges community gaps and builds stronger connections between leaders and the citizens they serve.

The stakeholders’ meeting was also attended by members of the Board of Trustees of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
