GOC 1 DIVISION RECEIVES UN CHIEF SECURITY ADVISER TO STRENGTHEN SECURITY PARTNERSHIP

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 1 Joint Task Force North-West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General ASM Wase, received the United Nations Chief Security Adviser for Nigeria, Mr. Senyo Kufe, and his delegation during a courtesy visit to the Headquarters 1 Division Nigerian Army on Tuesday, 15 September 2026.

Mr Kufe expressed appreciation to the GOC for the warm reception, noting that the visit aimed to fortify the existing collaborative relationship between the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) and the Nigerian Army.
He emphasized that safeguarding UN personnel and civilians hinges on seamless coordination with Nigerian security agencies, particularly through robust information sharing, rapid verification, and timely responses to security incidents.

In his remarks, Major General Wase welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the Division’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of UN personnel operating within its Area of Responsibility (AoR). He characterized the current security landscape as fairly stable and under control, attributing the stability to ongoing, proactive operations conducted by troops alongside sister security agencies.

The GOC underscored the critical role of credible, real-time intelligence in modern security operations. He observed that while information flows from diverse sources, rigorous verification is essential before making actionable assessments or tactical deployments. To this end, Major General Wase called for sustained coordination and continuous intelligence exchange between the Division and the UNDSS to heighten situational awareness and effectively mitigate emerging threats.

The high-level engagement also provided a platform to review security dynamics across Kaduna State and the broader Northern region. Representatives from the UNDSS noted during the briefing that Kaduna is currently assessed as a medium-risk location.

The bilateral visit concluded with a formal exchange of souvenirs, the signing of the visitors’ book, and a group photograph to commemorate the partnership.
