IGP DISU ATTENDS BOOK LAUNCH OF RETIRED IGP MD ABUBAKAR, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO INTELLIGENCE-LED, RIGHTS-BASED POLICING
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, Saturday, 17th October 2026, attended the formal launch of “Beyond the Bullets: Policing Terrorism in a Democratic System,” authored by IGP MD Abubakar (Rtd), Ph.D., at the Police Resource Centre, Abuja. At the event, he reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, public trust, respect for human rights, and the responsible use of technology.
In his goodwill message, the IGP noted that the book’s core message aligns with the Force’s direction, stressing that effective policing rests on more than the use of force. He identified the rule of law, professional competence, and public trust as essential to fighting crime in a democratic system.
The IGP urged police officers and Nigerians to read the book not merely as an account of past events, but as a resource for understanding the need for sustained reform, professionalism and adherence to democratic values. He stressed that the fight against terrorism must remain consistent with constitutional obligations and respect for human rights.
He commended IGP MD Abubakar (Rtd) for his leadership during a challenging period of insurgency and terrorism, noting that his commitment to democratic policing demonstrated that firm action against crime need not compromise constitutional principles.
The IGP described the book as a valuable resource for policymakers, security practitioners, scholars and the public, drawing on decades of operational command, strategic thinking and sacrifice. He noted that its lessons would help guide present and future police leaders as they navigate the responsibilities of policing in a democracy.
The Inspector-General of Police, on behalf of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, congratulated the author on the publication and endorsed its public presentation. He wished the retired IGP good health, long life and continued fruitful contributions to the nation.
