MINISTRY STAFF PARTICIPATES IN NITDA/META SKILLS MASTERCLASS
Staff of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development today participated in the Meta Digital Skills Masterclass for Government, a one-day training programme jointly organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Meta at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Digital Complex, Abuja.
The training was designed to equip public servants with the digital competencies required to enhance service delivery and improve communication in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Speaking at the event, the Director General of NITDA, represented by the Director of Digital Development Services, Mr. Olawunmi Oladejo, urged participants to approach the training with an open mind and maximise the opportunity to acquire relevant digital skills.
He encouraged participants to familiarise themselves with the five key digital competence areas, namely:
*Device and Software;
*Information and Digital Literacy;
*Digital Content Creation;
*Safety; and
*Digital Transformation.
Delivering a presentation on “Evolving Public Service Delivery,” the Policy Representative for Anglophone Africa at Meta, Mrs. Victoria Oloni, highlighted how digital technology has transformed governance and communication. She noted that public service has evolved from the era of phone booths and postal correspondence through NIPOST to seamless digital communication using smartphones, laptops, tablets and other internet-enabled devices.
Mrs. Oloni further explained that digitalisation has replaced several analogue processes, including manual payroll systems, physical movement of files and long-distance travel for routine administrative tasks. She added that digital platforms have significantly improved access to information, record management and service delivery across the public sector.
Also speaking, the Head of Government and Social Impact Partnerships for Sub-Saharan Africa at Meta, Mrs. Judith Mongalo, stressed the importance of online security. She encouraged participants to activate Two-Step Verification on their Meta accounts to safeguard against cyber threats, maintain strong privacy settings and refrain from sharing harmful or misleading content online.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Yakubu Musa stated that the objective of the training was to enable government institutions to effectively leverage Meta’s digital platforms for strategic communication and improved public engagement. He appreciated participants for attending the programme despite the short notice and expressed optimism that the knowledge gained would strengthen digital communication across government offices.
