NEMA DISTRIBUTES RELIEF MATERIALS TO BANDITRY-AFFECTED PERSONS IN FOUR LGAs OF KEBBI STATE
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Sokoto Operations Office, has embarked on the distribution of relief materials to persons affected by armed banditry in four Local Government Areas of Kebbi State.
The distribution exercise was conducted in Koko town, headquarters of Koko-Besse Local Government Area, to provide humanitarian assistance to affected persons in Zuru, Koko-Besse, Bagudo and Yauri Local Government Areas.
The intervention is aimed at alleviating the hardship faced by the affected communities and providing essential food supplies to vulnerable households impacted by the persistent security challenges in the areas.
In view of the prevailing security situation and the vulnerability of the affected communities, the relief materials were formally handed over to the Chairmen of the respective Local Government Councils for onward distribution to the identified beneficiaries. This approach was adopted to facilitate the safe and effective delivery of the assistance to the affected persons.
The exercise was witnessed by representatives of Kebbi State SEMA, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Koko-Besse Police Division, and representatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), reflecting the importance of security coordination in humanitarian interventions within vulnerable communities.
The relief items distributed included 25kg bags of rice, 25kg bags of beans, bags of maize and cartons of tomato products. The food supplies are expected to provide immediate relief to households struggling with the consequences of armed banditry and related displacement and livelihood disruptions.
