NEMA, OTHERS RESPOND TO PETROL TANKER CRASH, FUEL SPILL IN SOKOTO
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Sokoto Operations Office, has coordinated a multi-agency response to a road traffic crash involving a petrol tanker and a heavy-duty truck along Airport Road in the Bado area of Sokoto State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 30, 2026, when the tanker, reportedly transporting petrol from the southern part of the country to Sokoto, collided with the truck and overturned, resulting in the spillage of fuel around the scene.
Following the incident, NEMA mobilised alongside the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), road marshals and representatives of the road transport union to assess the situation and support the response operation.
The responding agencies secured the area, managed vehicular movement and worked to minimise the risks associated with the spilled petroleum product, particularly the possibility of fire or further escalation.
Preliminary assessment indicated that four persons sustained minor injuries, while no death was recorded. Two vehicles, comprising the petrol tanker and the heavy-duty truck, were involved in the crash.
As part of the response operation, the remaining fuel in the overturned tanker was evacuated and transferred into another tanker to reduce the risk of further spillage and facilitate the safe management of the scene.
