NIGERIA COMMISERATES WITH NEPAL OVER TRAGIC LANDSLIDES AND FLASH FLOODS

The Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria commiserates with the Government and people of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal following the devastating landslides and flash floods that occurred along the Nepal-Tibet border on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, resulting in significant loss of lives, widespread destruction and the displacement of affected communities.

On behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, sympathizes with the Government and people of Nepal, particularly the grieving families, those anxiously awaiting news on missing loved ones and communities whose livelihoods and essential infrastructure have been severely affected by the disaster.

Nigeria commends the Nepali authorities for the prompt mobilisation of personnel and resources for rescue and humanitarian operations, as well as their ongoing efforts to restore essential services in affected areas.

Nigeria strongly hopes that continuing emergency response efforts will provide much-needed relief to the affected communities and facilitate the safe recovery of those missing.

The Government of Nigeria commends international relief efforts in affected areas, which underscore the importance of sustained international cooperation on emergency management, humanitarian response, and building climate resilience.

The Government and people of Nigeria stand in solidarity with the Government and people of Nepal at this difficult time, wishing affected communities courage and strength as they undertake the process of recovery and reconstruction.
