NIGERIA CONGRATULATES GABON ON ITS INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY

The Federal Republic of Nigeria warmly congratulates the Government and people of the Gabonese Republic on the auspicious occasion of the country’s Independence Anniversary, being commemorated today, 17 August 2026.

On behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, extends warm felicitations and best wishes to the Government and people of Gabon on this important national occasion. Nigeria joins the people of Gabon in celebrating the country’s rich history, national identity, and achievements since attaining independence in 1960.

Nigeria commends its longstanding diplomatic relations with Gabon, which are founded on mutual respect, African solidarity, and a shared commitment to regional peace, stability, and sustainable development. As members of the African community, both countries continue to work together to promote cooperation and integration on the continent.

Nigeria recognises Gabon as an important partner in Central Africa and appreciates its contributions to environmental conservation, regional security, economic development, and the promotion of peace and stability within the region. Both countries share common interests in addressing contemporary challenges, including climate change, energy security, biodiversity conservation, economic diversification, and sustainable development.

Nigeria also welcomes the opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation with Gabon in areas of mutual interest, particularly in trade, energy, environmental protection, maritime cooperation, education, and cultural exchange. Greater collaboration between public and private institutions in both countries will further strengthen the existing bonds of friendship.

Therefore, as Gabon commemorates this significant national milestone, Nigeria celebrates with the Gabonese people and looks forward to further strengthening the cordial and mutually beneficial relationship between both countries.

Nigeria once again extends its warm congratulations to the Government and people of the Gabonese Republic on the occasion of their Independence Anniversary and wishes the country continued peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.
