NIGERIAN ARMY DEEPENS COLLABORATION WITH FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Army Post-Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL), Major General Kevin Ukandu, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (NAM) led a delegation of senior military officers on a courtesy visit to the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development in Abuja on 17 September 2026. The engagement centred on strengthening collaboration in housing delivery and improving the welfare of military personnel.
Speaking during the visit, Major General Ukandu appreciated the Honorable Minister and his Directors for the warm reception and the support offered to Nigerian Army over time. He said the engagement was in line with the COAS’ Soldier-First concept and the mandate to provide affordable retirement homes for Nigerian Army personnel. He stated that adequate welfare, especially as it concerns housing, enables soldiers to focus better on their life-threatening responsibilities. The visit was therefore an opportunity to deepen collaboration between both institutions to further support the welfare of military personnel through housing.
The delegation was warmly received by the Honorable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr Muttaqa Rabe Darma PhD. He stated that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring that those who serve the country do not regret their service. The Honorable Minister disclosed that approximately 600 housing units will be handed over to the military before the end of the year to improve the welfare of their personnel. He further noted that the ministry is working on a larger social housing programme under which preparations are being made to provide 1,000 housing units in all local governments across the nation, from which retired military personnel will be beneficiaries.
The visit concluded with interactions between officials and group photographs.
