Orefuwa Targets League Success with Al Ahli After U-21 Title Triumph
Former Nigeria U-17 invitee Michael Orefuwa has set his sights on helping Bahraini giants Al Ahli challenge for the 2026/27 league title after leading the club’s U-21 side to the NBB League crown.
Al Ahli, who last won the Bahraini league title in 2010 and lifted the King’s Cup in 2024, resume pre-season training on Monday, July 20, ahead of the new campaign.
Speaking ahead of pre-season, Orefuwa described the 2025/26 campaign as a breakthrough after breaking into Al Ahli’s senior team and featuring in key matches, while helping the club’s U-21 side win the league title for the first time since 2004.
“I’m excited about the new season. Last season was a breakthrough for me. Breaking into the first team, playing important matches and leading the U-21 team to the league title was an incredible experience. I’m learning every day from experienced international players, and I believe we can achieve great things this season,” he said.
On his international ambitions, Orefuwa said he remains focused on improving, adding that a national team invitation will come at the right time.
“I’m concentrating on working hard and getting better every day. If the opportunity comes, whether with the U-23 team or beyond, I’ll be ready. For now, my focus is on giving my best for my club,” he added.
