2027: WE WILL NOT REPEAT THE MISTAKES OF THE PAST – FCT MINISTER ASSURES RESIDENTS
…Says only leaders dedicated to the welfare of the people will be elected
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has declared that residents and indigenes of the FCT will not repeat the political errors of the 2023 elections come 2027, emphasizing that only leaders who truly care for the people’s welfare will earn their mandate.
Speaking at the Bwari Area Council Rainbow Coalition Stakeholders Meeting on Thursday, October 22, 2026, where key political leaders, traditional rulers, women, and youth groups gathered to align political strategies ahead of upcoming elections, Wike urged the electorate to reflect on the progress achieved so far and align politically to ensure continuous development rather than repeating past political errors.
The FCT Minister took a swipe at the current Senate representation for the territory, questioning the lawmaker’s presence and impact in area councils, such as Bwari. He noted that the incumbent had failed to establish meaningful connections with local communities, traditional rulers, youth and women groups during times of need.
“God’s time is the best, and God knows why what happened in 2023 happened”, Wike stated. “Today, the people of FCT—from AMAC, down to Bwari, Kuje, Kwali, Abaji, and Gwagwalada—can now compare and know who really loves you, who identifies with you when you have problems, and who comes to ask how you are faring. The mistake we made in 2023, we will not make that mistake again”.
He advised stakeholders against handing over their future to those he described as political gamblers, urging them (residents) to rather support President Tinubu who has sufficiently demonstrated that he has their interest at heart. “I will say this again, don’t listen to political gamblers, don’t listen to political Kalokalo people. We are going to work with the President because we have seen what he is doing for Bwari. We have seen that the President means well for you”.
He emphasized that the visible infrastructure and political reforms taking place across the FCT are direct fruits of President Tinubu’s unwavering support and leadership under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Look at the roads; let me authoritatively tell you today, by the grace of God, you will celebrate Christmas on this Bwari to Kubwa road”, the Minister stated, reassuring stakeholders that all ongoing road projects and promises made under his administration would be fully delivered.
The FCT Minister also highlighted the administration’s historic decision to upgrade traditional stools to First-Class and Second-Class statuses, a long-overdue development that had lingered for 29 years, describing it as a demonstration of president Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of the people.
“I align myself with anybody I know that is committed to the development of this country, and Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown fully that he is committed to development through the Renewed Hope Agenda”, Wike declared, adding, “All these things you are saying the FCT Minister is doing, the President is the one giving me support and approval. That’s why everything is working out well. Therefore, you must vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
To solidify support for the President’s agenda at the grassroots and National Assembly levels, the Minister noted that a cross-party alliance under the Rainbow Coalition will work for the reelection of President Tinubu for national interest, explaining that political parties are merely vehicles meant to deliver development to the public.
Under the platform, Wike also presented former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, for the FCT Senate seat, and Hon. John Gabaya for the House of Representatives, representing AMAC and Bwari federal constituency, both under the All Progressives Congress (APC). He noted that electing those candidates alongside President Tinubu will ensure seamless communication and effective governance between the FCT grassroots and the Presidency.
“Go back home, put more effort to make sure that Mr. President and our dear brothers win this election very well. On the 16th of January, all of you in Bwari should come out en masse to vote for Mr. President”, the FCT Minister further stressed.
Highlighting the spirit of unity within the coalition, the FCT Minister revealed that the PDP Chairmanship candidate for Bwari, Hon. Julius Adamu voluntarily stepped down to support the current Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Joshua Ishaku Musa. In recognition of his loyalty, the Minister disclosed plans to forward his nomination to President Tinubu for appointment as head of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB).
Welcoming the Minister, the Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Hon. Joshua Ishaku Musa, expressed gratitude for the Minister’s continued support and tangible development projects in the council area.
“Even the blind knows that there is a working government in the Federal Capital because the President has brought you to fulfill this Renewed Hope Agenda”, he remarked, assuring the Minister of total political alignment and mobilization from Bwari residents.
The APC Chairman in the FCT, Hon. Ishaku Tanko Yamawo in his remarks also expressed immense appreciation to the Minister for his transformative work across the FCT, pointing out key projects in Bwari Area Council, including water supply interventions and major road construction projects.
Representatives of women and youth groups present at the meeting also passed a vote of confidence in the FCT Minister and pledged their unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Rainbow Coalition candidates.
