GOVERNOR OTTI RECEIVES ADVENTIST GLOBAL MISSIONARY, CHEOL SOO HAN, GETS BRIEFING ON ADVENTIST ONE VOICE GLOBAL PROGRAMME.

Abia State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, on Saturday, November 7, received Pastor Cheol Soo Han, an Adventist global missionary from Grovetown Korean-English Church of the Georgia-Cumberland Conference, Southern Union Conference, North American Division of the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, who had just concluded a week-long evangelistic campaign in Ehimiri District of the Adventist Church, Umuahia North Local Government Area of the State.

Pastor Han commended Governor Otti for his service to the people and his support for the Church.

“Your Excellency, Governor, it is a great honour and pleasure to meet you today. First, I would like to thank you for your service to the people of this State.

“I also want to thank you for your support to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, especially for helping to build many Churches in this State. We truly appreciate your kindness and cooperation,” he said.

In a brief message titled “The Mission of a Leader Appointed by God,” with a text drawn from Proverbs 21:1, which says, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: He turneth it whithersoever He will,” the international evangelist said leadership is not about power but about serving the people.

“God gives leaders a special responsibility. A good leader serves the people, protects the weak, promotes justice, and works for the good of everyone,” he stated.

Pastor Han concluded his message with a special prayer for the Governor, asking God to continue to grant him wisdom, strength and good health to serve the people.

Governor Otti welcomed Pastor Cheol Soo Han and his entourage to Nigeria and Abia State, describing their visit as a blessing. He thanked the missionary for his message and prayers.

The Governor also thanked God for the successful completion of the week-long evangelistic campaign and asked Pastor Han to extend his greetings and regards and those of the State Government to his family and members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the United States of America. He expressed the desire to welcome him back to the State whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Governor Otti, whose late father was a pastor of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and who does not shy away from describing himself as a Levite, has been a consistent and generous supporter of Christian causes. He has made significant contributions towards the construction of new church buildings, the renovation and retrofitting of existing ones, among other forms of tangible support.

The majority of these benevolent gestures by Governor Otti towards the household of God were made before he became Governor of the State. Even as Governor, his support for God’s work has not diminished, as public service has not prevented him from continuing his passionate personal commitment to serving God, as he did as a private citizen.

However, Governor Otti has consistently maintained that government funds must be used strictly for government business. Consequently, his benevolent contributions to the work of God are made from his personal resources.

The President of the Abia North Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (ABNC), Pastor Kennedy Ihuoma briefed the Governor about the One Voice programme which will be commemorated next year (2027) as a an initiative of the Seventh-day Adventist Church to commemorate 2,000 years since the baptism of Jesus Christ, which was followed by the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

He explained that Adventists worldwide, irrespective of their linguistic differences, come together this period to speak with one voice, and that one voice is that “Jesus loves you.”

He disclosed that the programme was designed to prepare the world for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ through a globally coordinated evangelistic campaign involving local churches, which would culminate in a bountiful harvest of souls for Christ.

Earlier in the day, before receiving Pastor Cheol Soo Han and his entourage, Governor Otti observed Sabbath worship at the Umuehim Seventh-day Adventist Church in his country home, after which he proceeded to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Amuha District.

Pastor Cheol Soo Han was accompanied on the visit by the President of the Abia North Conference (ABNC), Pastor Kennedy Ihuoma; the Executive Secretary, Pastor Samuel Egbuta; the Treasurer, Mrs. Rebecca Ugochukwu; and the Principal of Adventist Technical Secondary School, Ebem, Ohafia, Pastor Dr. E.K.K. Uguru, among others.

The Governor was accompanied to the Sabbath Worship by the member representing Isiala Ngwa South in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Roland Chinwendu; the National Vice Chairman of the Labour Party, South-East, Hon. Ismael Onuoha; the Mayor of Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Hon. Nnadozie Nwaogwugwu, among others.
