BRIGADIER GENERAL ADAMU UMAR ABDUL ASSUMES COMMAND OF 23 ARMOURED BRIGADE

Brigadier General Adamu Umar Abdul has assumed command of 23 Armoured Brigade following a handover ceremony at the Brigade Headquarters on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Brigadier General Abdul, the 47th Commander of the Brigade, succeeded Brigadier General Amechi Agwu.

In his remarks, General Abdul congratulated his predecessor on a successful tour of duty, noting that the commendations he received from superior authorities attest to his diligence, sacrifice and contributions to the Brigade. He pledged to build on his predecessor’s achievements and sustain the standards established during his tenure. He appealed to General Agwu to remain available to provide guidance and counsel, adding that his experience would be valuable in navigating operational challenges.

The Commander charged Commanding Officers and officers to demonstrate greater commitment to duty and sustain efforts to fortify their locations and strengthen operational readiness.
Brigadier General Abdul, a member of 48 Regular Course, Nigerian Defence Academy, was until his appointment Deputy Military Secretary 1 (Army) at the Army Headquarters Department of Military Secretary.

In his farewell address, Brigadier General Agwu thanked the Chief of Staff, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers, officers and soldiers for their dedication and support during his tenure. He urged them to redouble efforts to consolidate the Brigade’s operational gains and pledged to remain available for consultation.
